Second and Third Opinions

Jess's last visit to the cardiologist was in March, she had a sedated echo done along with all the typical tests they do. Everything went well; she tolerated the tests just fine. We have been waiting all this time to hear back from them, letting us know what they want to do regarding when to do the surgery. We finally got the call last week... They think Jess would have better odds at surviving the surgery if they put it off until she is around 4 years old. We asked a bunch of questions and just feel unsettled about the whole thing, so we have decided to seek a second opinion from Boston Children's Hospital and a third opinion from Children's Hospital of Philly. We have gotten the OK from the insurance company and so far Rochester is cooperating with signing over the test results. Once we get them we can send them off to the hospitals and wait for their opinions. If they agree with Rochester, we will feel re-assured. If they say something different, then we will be even more confused as we are right now.
Jess is doing good though over all. She is growing and eating just fine. Not showing any signs of being in heart failure. She is progressing fine with her PT and OT, at least I think so anyway. I just wish so bad they could see in her what I see. She is happy, strong and more determined than the rest of us could ever hope to be.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JESS!

Happy first birthday little lady! It has been a wonderful day of celebration.... you even had your very own pink cake! It sure has been a great year Jess! You are as strong as a warrior and as beautiful as a princess. That's our Jess. We love you sweetheart! XO!!

A great check-up!

Jess just had a check-up with her cardiologist at Strong Thursday and she did great! They did an EKG, checked all her pulses and listened to her heart real good and everything sounds wonderful. There are no signs of heart failure yet and her band is still doing it's job, so they don't need to see her again for 3 months. At that appointment they will do another sedated echo and compare those results to Septembers to see if there is any change. Then they will know more about when the surgery might be. Everyone in the office was so happy to see her again and Jess gave them all a big smile. She is such a ham, just like her brother.
We are so happy! To be able to come home and know we wont need to go back up for a while is a blessing! Now we can all relax and enjoy spending the holidays together at home and pretty soon it will be time to plan her birthday party!! Time sure does go fast!

We set up this blog so everyone can keep up to date on how Jess is doing, especially through her surgery coming up this winter. Until then we will post things when they come up, but thankfully right now everything is going well. She had her first cold a few weeks ago and was put on penicillin and breathing treatments. She got through that just fine and the Dr was pleased to see how well she did.
She is starting to talk and babble now, saying mamama, bababa, dadada! Blowing raspberries is still her favorite thing to do though. She is pulling herself up really good and loves to stand on her feet. Her and Joey are becoming quite the team lately. They love to play on porch and the floor together. And when they sit next to each other in their highchairs while I'm fixing dinner, that's when the real fun starts. It is the best thing in the world watching them grow up together!
